Optimizing our events for a hybrid audience<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1694798906218{padding-right: 25px !important;}”]The Research Institute of St. Joe\u2019s is proud to offer a range of events to our researchers, staff, and the St. Joe\u2019s community that focus on celebrating achievements, awareness, continuing education, appreciation, and relationship building.<\/strong> While many of our events moved to virtual platforms during the pandemic, such as Zoom and YouTube, we have since been working to optimize our events lineup for a hybrid setup \u2013 in-person and virtual. Celebrate Research<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>[vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Celebrate Research<\/em> brings together investigators, research staff, students, clinical staff, local partners, and community members, giving us the opportunity to recognize the achievements of our colleagues and research programs. It’s a great place to network and connect with healthcare organizations in Hamilton, and to congratulate the winners of The Research Institute Awards Program. Though our events programming has expanded in recent years, Celebrate Research<\/em> is our annual flagship event.<\/p>\n

We shifted from an in-person event to an online presentation amid the COVID-19 pandemic and found success via a live video premiere. In 2020 and 2021, this online format allowed Celebrate Research<\/em> to reach a larger audience.<\/p>\n

Anne & Neil McArthur Research Award<\/h5>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]The Anne & Neil McArthur Research Award is given annually to an internationally recognized researcher and is accompanied by a special presentation from the award recipient. Since 2020, we have opted to host a separate event for the McArthur Academic Presentation to allow for a live discussion with more engagement opportunities from the audience.<\/p>\n

The winner of the 2022 Anne & Neil McArthur Research Award is Dr. James Douketis, who has dedicated his career to researching the prevention of potentially fatal blood clots due to risks associated with surgery, hormone replacement therapy, and other blood and venous-related conditions. Dr. Douketis has authored more than 430 scholarly articles, 387 of them in peer-reviewed publications. He has offered nearly 500 speaking engagements and his research has been cited more than 100,000 times. His contributions to internal medicine are prolific, but he takes the most pride in the care he provides to his patients and the mentorship he offers to the students who will follow in his footsteps in the fields of internal medicine, hematology and thromboembolism.<\/p>\n

Learning Pillar Week<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>[vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]In November 2022, The Research Institute teamed up with St. Joe’s Department of Education and Learning to bring a week of special events centred around the Learning pillar of the Hospital’s strategic plan. Dubbed Learning Pillar Week<\/em>, we co-hosted over 20 workshops, seminars, and special events (including Celebrate Research) for the St. Joe’s community.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”1488″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner gap=”24″][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]With sessions hosted by internal and external speakers, including a partner event hosted by the McMaster Industry Liaison Office (MILO), members of the St. Joe’s community were able to participate in a variety of professional development, networking, and recognition events.<\/p>\n

Summer Sizzler<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>[vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]Building off of the success of the September Sizzler barbeque event, which we co-hosted with the Hospital and Foundation in September 2021, our organizations teamed up to host yet another staff appreciation event in the early summer of 2022.<\/p>\n

From June 28 to 30, 2023, we visited each campus to give out jumbo freezies and thank our community for supporting research at St. Joe’s. The Hospital provided a barbeque lunch, and staff had the chance to give feedback on various initiatives. Our Foundation held several prize draws for staff.
