It is with great pride and gratitude that we welcome you to the FY2024 – 2025 Annual Report of The Research Institute of St. Joe’s Hamilton. This past year has been one of meaningful progress and continued growth as we advance our strategic research plan, Health and Humanity for All.

Our purpose – excellence in research and innovation that delivers better health for all – remains at the heart of everything we do. Guided by this vision, we have witnessed remarkable achievements across our research community.

This year, research funding increased by five per cent, reaching $52,085,427 – a testament to the excellence, dedication, and collaborative spirit of our investigators, trainees, and staff. We also launched a new early career research award in partnership with the St. Joseph’s Health Foundation, designed to help emerging researchers establish their portfolios and secure future external grants. In addition, our external Awards Nominations Program submitted six nominations on behalf of our researchers since June, two of which were successful and two of which are still under review.

Our collective efforts have elevated the profile of our institution and the outstanding research conducted by our community. These efforts have contributed to exceptional milestones, including a $10 million donation to support eye health, the launch of 29 innovation projects valued at $2.4 million, and the induction of Dr. Deborah Cook into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, among many others.

As a proud member of St. Joseph’s Health System, we are committed to fostering a culture of integrated research and innovation that spans our partner organizations. Together, we are shaping a future where every division and organization within the System embraces research and innovation as essential drivers of improved health and well-being for the communities we serve.

Looking ahead, we are inspired by the momentum we have built and excited by the opportunities that lie before us. With curiosity, compassion, and collaboration guiding our path, we will continue to strengthen our impact – locally, nationally, and globally.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for supporting research that truly embodies Health and Humanity for All.
